Advancing Health Equity Through Innovation, Integrity, and Inclusion.
Get InvolvedOHEDI (Background and Rationale)
Health inequalities in Nigeria remain a significant issue, impacting vulnerable and marginalised groups such as key populations (KPs), adolescents, women, orphans, and the elderly living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria. These groups face barriers to healthcare caused by stigma, discrimination, and sociocultural norms. Healthcare workers are often inadequately trained to provide inclusive, rights-based care, leading to limited access and poorer health outcomes. The elderly frequently experience loneliness and neglect, resulting in physical and mental decline. Meanwhile, some women suffer in silence from gender-based violence, and adolescents lack sufficient mentorship and education on sexual and reproductive health.
